Local Emptiness
Via Cosmic Variance, and Deepfly.org, some nice maps of the Solar Neighborhood, with some main (bright) stars and exoplanetary systems (the coordinate system convientently centered on the Sun is placed to measure distances, where each rings adds 13 light years. The external numbers are right ascension).
Moreover, a map of the ‘local bubble‘ which we appear to inhabit, mainly empty of clouds of interstellar gas, probably produced by supernovae explosions.
[Lots of material here for the crazy eccentric (divinely inspired?) people who claim that we are not only placed in a good zone of the galaxy to live in (the Habitable Zone), but also in one that allows for nice scientific observations, the galactic equivalent of eternal clear skies. Luck? No, they claim, it's all designed. The Designer not only wants us to be, but he wants us to know too, so its Divine Thought (ancestral witness?) organized the universe accordingly--prior to the advent of human thought--thus setting in place the condition of possibility for scientific inquiry].
